Where Did Jesus Go? (((HOMILY))) The Ascension of the Lord
by Father Brian J. Soliven on Sunday May 24, 2020
"Where is he going?" That question must have been on the dazed minds of the Apostles, as they watched Jesus ascend into Heaven. In his last parting words to them on earth, Jesus gives his last great item on the "to-do list":
"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, to the close of the age." (Matthew 28:19-20)
Then he was gone. Poof! The Church now has her divine missionary mandate, a mission she continues onward over these last 2,000 years since our Lord "left" us. But why did he have to leave? Where did he go? It would be a lot easier to convince the world that Jesus is truly God and change their lives if he was standing right next to us. Then when someone asks, "Prove to me that Jesus is real, you Christian." All we have to do is point, "Look he's right there!"
A las, it would not be so. As nice as it would to have him physically with us, Jesus knows it's actually better that he leaves. Click play/link to find out why:
