Stop Praying Now (((HOMILY))): 14th Sunday in Ordinary Time
by Father Brian J. Soliven on Sunday July 5, 2020
How are we to approach these uncertain times we find ourselves in? We have two fundamental, yet strikingly different options, I believe. One way is summed in the following words which were proclaimed on a major news channel from one of its million-dollar personalities: "If you believe in one another and if do the right thing for yourself and your community, things will get better in this country. You don't need help from above. It's within us." (emphasis added). Compare that sentiment with the words of Jesus in this Sunday's Gospel Reading from Matthew 11:25-30: “Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.” Which path will you choose?
